Keel Laying of The Second Sigint Ship for the Polish Navy
On January 23, 2024, the keel was laid at the Remontowa Shipbuilding SA shipyard for the construction of the second in the series of radio-electronic reconnaissance ships for the Polish Navy. On the ship, which will be named ORP Henryk Zygalski, the stage of prefabrication of the hull has already been completed and the assembly of individual elements of the unit has begun.
This is the second SIGINT ship built here as part of the Delfin program. The keel of the first one, which will be named ORP Jerzy Różycki, was laid on July 27, 2023. Remontowa Shipbuilding is implementing the contract for the design, construction, delivery and logistic support of two electronic reconnaissance ships, signed in November 2022 between the Armament Agency and the Saab concern, which commissioned the construction of these units from the Polish shipyard.
The large Kockums AB delegation was headed by the company's vice president, Lars Brännström. Guests from the Polish side included: the head of the Armament Directorate of the General Command of the Armed Forces, Rear Admiral Włodzimierz Kułagin, the commander of the 3rd Ship Flotilla in Gdynia, Commander Andrzej Ogrodnik, the head of the Naval Technology Headquarters in the Armament Inspectorate, Commander Piotr Skóra, and the deputy head of the Armament Agency, Colonel Piotr Paluch.
“These will be highly reliable and advanced units, designed to facilitate the collection of communications and electronic data. We believe that these ships will increase the information-gathering capabilities of our Navy and Army and will automatically increase not only our security, but also the security of NATO and the European Union. I would like to thank the Armament Agency, the Swedish concern Saab and all the shipyard employees involved in the implementation of this project," said Dariusz Jaguszewski, president of Remontowa Shipbuilding SA.
“I am very proud of the construction progress. The units will be equipped with state-of-the-art systems that will increase defense capabilities not only in the Baltic Sea. I trust that thanks to them, sailors and soldiers will soon be able to ensure the safety of all of us," emphasized Lars Brännström.
During the ceremony, a commemorative coin was welded into the ship's keel. A protocol confirming the laying of the keel was also signed.
